A Soft Day in Corcaige
A Soft Day
Refers to a day which is not quite raining, the air is warm with a constant moisture and there is comfortable light in the air. Sky and Valley can be one and to walk in it you might end up soaked despite no drops falling.
Sí Bheag Sí Mhor
Growing up in the wilds I saw so much colour in the natural forms of rocks and moss, big cliffy hidden places scattered in untamed farmlands for cattle.
This is a painting of what I used to call the 'tooth hill' but it sat beside another smaller hill thus the tital. The tooth hill was often caught in a striking light, with the fields and rocks and coloured clouds of Irish sky woven round it like sheeps wool on the fences.
I painted this at a time when I hadn't been home to Eire in years, and I used to feel a pulling strain on the wind calling me back, the smell of real air and water promised in memory.
Saudage
The feeling of Cherishing something so deeply, some feeling founded in the beautiful present innocence, alongside the freedom and wisdom of letting it go.
Painted in response to a song by the clown and singer Artie Godden during the 2020 lockdown.
Inner
Looking in, you better look out.
